Ever wondered, how a tree stands taller and stronger despite weathering storms and harsh winds? Just like a tree, we too cannot grow in life without experiencing the phenomenon called pain. Nature offers many examples that show the necessity of pain. Diamonds cannot sparkle without enduring immense pressure beneath the Earth’s surface. Gold cannot hold any value without first being refined by flames. The lotus flower cannot bloom without emerging from the muddy depths of the pond, and a rainbow cannot paint the sky without the rain preceding it.
Likewise, wisdom isn’t gained without learning life’s lessons, and strength isn’t built without overcoming challenges. This is the transformative power of pain and adversity that often emerges from difficult experiences. But, in our society, there’s a constant push to seek happiness, maintain a facade of contentment, and avoid showing vulnerability by shedding tears. Setbacks are often viewed negatively, and we’re conditioned to hide our pain rather than express it openly. Despite everyone experiencing pain at some point, we tend to conceal it behind a mask of strength, don’t we?
Ironically, pain is a powerful force in human experience, influencing our physical, emotional, and psychological states. Pain can be both creative and destructive forces. Pain serves as a crucial warning for our emotions, often leading to sadness, anger, or frustration. Yet, on a deeper level, it can transform us, building resilience and empathy. Both forces ultimately lead us to something new: either a new version of ourselves or the improvement of something around us. Overcoming pain fosters personal growth and a greater appreciation for life’s joys.
But what does pain seek from us?
Pain demands to be acknowledged and felt, and unless you accept it, healing can not begin. Embracing pain involves the willingness to fully understand it, even amidst discomfort, without attempting to suppress it. There are no shortcuts, you must go through it. Only by experiencing it can you move beyond the pain and avoid remaining stuck in the same painful cycle. Nothing worth having comes easily, it requires patience, hard work, focus, and dedication. Pain has the power to create magical transformations in life. For instance, a mother endures immense pain during childbirth, yet it brings the miracle of new life into the world. And look at you – you are proof of this magic.
Spiritually, pain brings us closer to the divine presence within and around us. While happiness allows us to enjoy life, experiencing pain enables a deeper understanding of life itself. Those on a path of self-realization often encounter significant pain, as changing oneself proves to be the most challenging task in the universe. Pain evokes emotions in us that we never knew existed. Joy and happiness make us forget reality, but pain makes us stand back and think about life, ourselves, and what really matters. So, whenever you find yourself in pain, surrender to a higher power, feel it, and allow yourself to go through it.
If you believe you’re evolving but the pain seems never-ending, and you wonder when it will be over for you to find eternal bliss, remember: as long as you’re alive on this earth, you’ll experience both agony and ecstasy. These are two sides of the same coin. True bliss comes with liberation, where you taste real freedom. And when enlightenment happens to you, you enter a state where nothing matters, and everything is unified, pain, happiness, sorrow, guilt, joy, anger, love – they all become one.
As long as you pursue the material world, be prepared to face suffering, as it is an inevitable part of life. Don’t let ignorance overpower you. If you cannot repeatedly laugh at the same joke, why do you feel sad, hurt, and cry over the same problem? Learn to manage the suffering without letting your ego be the protector of it.
If you think you cannot let go of the pain, you’re probably right. Ever wonder, where would the pain go if you did? It would linger somewhere, wouldn’t it? So, instead say, ‘Let it be!’ Adopt an attitude of acceptance. Remember, your greatest strength comes from within, whether or not you have someone beside you. However painful it is, hug it and say- ‘thank you for helping me transform!’ and then let it be…! That’s the essence of authentic living. Nothing’s permanent in life – neither happiness nor pain – except change. So allow yourself to go through destruction, for it is simply another form of change.
